He'd managed to work out of a way of detaching his testicles from his body. This way, he could leave them at home without fear of them getting damaged or stolen while he was out working.
Accept right now, just when he needed a pair of working testicles, he couldn't for the life of him remember where he put them.

He didn't have time for breakfast so he took a photograph of a bowl of fruit with him as he headed out, grabbing his pie-plate hat and tool-bag on his way to the tiny apartment's exit: a small space between two cushions on the threadbare sofa in a corner of the tiny kitchenette.
