I agreed to meet her. She insisted we meet in public. And she was nice about it. I knew it was bad news because she's usually too embarrassed to be seen in public with me. And, she's never nice.

I knew she was going to dump me and I knew it was going to be tonight. I thought, why should I make it easy on her? So I laundered my best suit, ironed my best silk shirt and silk tie, got my shoes shined, got my teeth fixed, got myself showered, shaved and shiny, slung a dead swan over my shoulder and slid a gas mask over my face.
