In Space, No One Cares About Your Disappointment

I awake in the middle of the night to find that I'm aboard some sort of flying saucer. It is empty save for a few scruffy, quite miserable looking aliens. They look human enough, but they are very small and stocky, and they have eyes that were clearly made for looking through rather than at.

I tell them I want to see the captain.
"We don't have a captain!" Says one of them with a rumbling, despairing sort of tone.
"Well I want to see who ever's in charge!" I say.
"We don't have one of those either." Replies another of them in an equally crackling, moody tone.
I point to a particularly small, crumpled looking person sitting on a sort of bench; "Well who's he then?"
"That's Steve." They say, as if it's obvious.
"And what does he do?"
"He's just here for the ride."
"What about you?" I ask another.
"I'm visiting friends." She says.
"I'm on my way home." Says another.
"And I'm just here to make sure you don't do anything stupid."
"And what sort of qualifications make you capable of doing that?" I ask.
"I don't need qualifications, do you think I want to spend my time keeping my eye on you?"
"You people are insane!" I tell them.
"You're the one who thinks he's onboard a space ship!"
"Yeah!"

Now a Major Motion Picture

Egotistical hairdressers with the undignified swagger of rock stars, violence beneath the surface. Posh & Becks wannabees.

Falling now, the divide between pop star and porn star. How far is the leap from Workout Video to Softcore Porn Video?

I am humbled by your egotism.

Jarman Rules.

On saturday, the boy in the room next to mine died while attempting to tunnel under the dividing wall between our flats. He just wanted to be friends.

And when I stop and think about it I can smell whatever chemicals they use to cover up the smell of a corpse. Smells like mothballs. Ironically, to me it smells like dead people.

I used to have the same haircut as the 'special boy' in Million Dollar Hotel.

Thought: A high IQ does not make you a dignified, eloquent, self-aware person.

"Rembrandt was conscious. As far as his being a saint is concerned, though - forget it. Radiant being and sainthood are not the same thing, believe me." The Key, Whitley Strieber.

You don't know how lucky you are.

Ocean

There is water pouring in through the ceiling of my kitchen. The light bulb has become a surrealist's shower. Turn on the light and the water inside the bulb begins to boil.

Gurdjieff is not a cynic, but an optimist. His analysis of the state of most people is not a condemnation but rather a suggestion of hope.

What he means by "mankind is asleep," is that most people have a system of built-up habits of thought and behavior from which it is nearly impossible for them to deviate, primarily because they identify with this system, taking it to be themselves. They do not consider that they learned these habits in the same way that they learned language: by imitation. They acquired this system, called the personality, mostly when they actually _were_ impressionable, gullible, and easily trusting: when they were children. Gurdjieff offers a system by which a person my non-identify with this system in order to study it and determine which parts of it are not virtuous or beneficial to the individual as a whole, for any study quickly reveals many conflicts of interest within the self which impair the overall willpower. http://skepdic.com/comments/gurdjcom.html

"Why are you on the floor?" She said.
"I fell over." I said. (I'm always falling over).
"But you were lying on the floor when I was here this morning. How long have you been lying there?"
I roll over, peeling my face from the pavement so that I can see who it is I'm talking up at. "Seven years." I tell her.
"Seven years!?"
"Seven years. You see, I'm always falling over, and getting up again is such an effort, and I mean, what's the point, I'm only going to end up on the floor again anyway."
"That's a very negative attitude."
"Not really. I like it down here, and I've everything I need."
